Inside Ireland’s newest Christmas market with unique gifts and Santa’s cabin coming to major city


GALWAY is set to sparkle like never before this festive season with not one but two Christmas markets spreading holiday cheer.

The city’s famous Galway Continental Christmas Market returns to Eyre Square for its 14th year and will be joined by a surprise newcomer.

An indoor Tiny Traders Pop-Up Market will be opening in Edward Square.

Tiny Traders Village shared the exciting news to their Facebook followers.

Organisers said: “We’re delighted to announce that we’ll be doing a Christmas Market again this year.

“And we’re really excited to share the news with you all that we’ll be doing an indoor Tiny Traders Pop-Up Market in this fabulous retail space in Edward Square where NEXT used to be.”

This festive event will run from December 6 to Christmas Eve.

It will offer visitors a unique indoor shopping experience featuring local crafts and festive gifts.

Meanwhile, the Galway Continental Christmas Market has kicked off on November 8 and runs until Sunday, January 5, 2025.

Attracting over 450,000 visitors last year, it promises to deliver its trademark festive magic.

With 50 wooden chalets, the Big Wheel, a carousel, and a Santa’s Express Train.

Visitors can also enjoy food and drink from around the world, including bratwurst, crêpes, French pastries, and a German Bier Keller.


For families, Santa’s Grotto, an enchanted light garden, and festive choirs are set to bring Christmas magic to life.

Opening hours for the Eyre Square market are Monday to Wednesday 12pm to 8pm, however the bar will stay open until 10pm.

And Thursday to Saturday it will be open from 10am to 10pm.

While on Sundays, it will close slightly earlier as it is open from 10am 8pm.

The two markets’ proximity will make it easy for families and visitors to explore both, with the promise of festive gifts, treats, and holiday memories.

Vistors are set to be buzzing with excitement about the double dose of Christmas magic.

Whether you’re after handmade gifts, a bratwurst feast, or a festive ride on the Big Wheel, Galway has something for everyone this Christmas.

Even the little ones, who can have the chance to meet Santa himself in his cabin – located on the main plaza, between The Browne Doorway and the Christmas Tree.

Visitors will have to pre-book and tickets cost €20 per child however this also includes a toy that varies depending on their age.

Santa’s Cabin will be open Fridays to Sundays with time varying depending on the day.

Friday, Santa is there from 4 pm to 8 pm, while on Saturday he is there from 11 am to 8 pm, and on Sunday it is 11 am to 7:30 pm.
