Mel Gibson‘s conversation with Joe Rogan during his recent appearance on the JRE podcast centered around the California wildfires. Over the last few days, the state has incurred numerous damages to life and property in the wildfires. Many homeowners lost their precious homes in the fires, including multiple celebrities.

When Rogan shared a story about his friend losing his Palisades home in the fires, Gibson shared that he would be surprised if his home survived the fires. He further shared that his son and actor Milo Gibson was volunteering with the fire brigade. He added that the update he got from his son wasn’t promising.

Gibson’s son shared that things were not looking good, with The Passion of the Christ director adding that his whole neighborhood was in flames. He shared that this disaster would finally get him out of California. Gibson shared with the JRE podcast:

I would be surprised if my home was still there. My son is running around trying to put out fires and he said ‘Things are not good, pops.” My whole neighborhood is in flames. It looks like an inferno. This might finally get me out of California.

It is estimated that the wildfires will cause damages amounting to a total of $135 billion to $150 billion (via NewsNation). It was reported that homeowners could face challenges while trying to recover from their losses as it is unlikely that such a large sum would be insured to them. It wouldn’t be surprising that many homeowners would consider leaving just like Gibson.

During his appearance on the JRE podcast, Mel Gibson and Joe Rogan took turns bashing Gavin Newsom, the California governor, for the wildfires. Gibson shared that Newsom went back on his promise to take care of the forests when he was elected in 2019. Rogan added that “they cut the water off” leading to severe consequences. Gibson shared:

It’s all funny. And then I think all our tax dollars probably went for Gavin’s hair gel. I don’t know but it’s like, you know, it’s sad, it’s like — the place is just on fire.

Rogan further added that the whole state is “poorly managed” and claimed that Newsom has “ruined this state.” He shared, “It’s so frustrating and confusing, and then [Newsom] gets on TV and pretends like everything’s great.” However, it isn’t just Gibson and Rogan who are discussing the politics behind it.

The fires have caused a political feud between President-elect Donald Trump and Newsom. Trump criticized the California governor for the fires while Newsom clapped back, sharing that Trump just wants to politicize the disaster.
